Posted 5/7/2006 7:38:45 PM | | | One of our staff had a lengthly conversation today with a casting director today who loves to cast from our web site.
In addition to complimenting us, they commented on the users and members of our site.
What he kept saying over and over again was that people do NOT follow instructions. He was incredibly frustrated with the fact that after posting an audition and listing instructions on how to submit over 75% did NOT follow instructions.
He asked for a package to be sent after the initial email submission. The package must contain a DVD that shows various monologues(range of emotions). Example, show us how angry, sad, evil, scared, happy, and crazy etc. you could be. Be EXTREMELY creative, uncensored, raw, but professional! You can impersonate a familiar face, but show creativity and originality.
2) Film Credits/Demo Reel (if applicable)
3) Resume/Headshots/RefeHead shots
Like he said, over 75% did not send a complete package. This resulted in wasted time for everyone.
Another statement he made was what we have been preaching and harping to all of you for a long time.
If you are unable to follow instructions and directions initially, what makes you think that he or any casting director would want you to work on on their film?
He wants actors and actresses that are able to follow directions and instructions. That is what the craft of acting is about.
The director directs and the actor follows his direction.
Now you know why we now review everyone that wants access to the casting calls and auditions. We have seen first hand what people are submitting to the production personnel.
We tried to keep it open to all and just reivew the submissions, that did not work because we were overwelmed with hundreds of responses a day. The staff was working overtime just trying to go through the submissions and correct, respond and submit to the production people.
So we hope you understand that to get into this field is just like getting a job. You must be prepared and you must follow instructions. If you cannot, may we suggest that you just move on to another field. You will not be discovered, get your "Big Break" if you cannot follow instructions.

Congratulations!
